Peach and Silver Second Birthday Party!

Claire's Second Birthday

We just celebrated our daughters 2nd birthday this past Saturday with friends and family. It was so much fun watching our daughter enjoy herself at the party. I had been planning her party for a couple months before and decided on a Peach and Silver theme that I saw on Pinterest. It had been hard to get some of the extra details done for the party because our youngest who just turned 3 months hasn't been sleeping well and I'm a zombie during the day so I have zero energy to plan a party. I am fortunate to have a wonderful family so I delegated many jobs to my mom and sister. My mom was able to run to the store for me a number of times to pick up candy, decorations and art supplies. My sister came over to watch the girls for me while I baked cupcakes and a cake and was able to pick up a balloon order as well.
Claire's decorated party table
I decorated with balloons from Party Stuff and streamers. My mom was able to find pink and purple balloons with our daughters name on them. I also bought a variety of white and peach colour flowers. I cut them short and put them into square vases. Then I bought watermelon umbre coloured paper lanterns from Party Stuff, that looked like peach. I had a couple grey paper lanterns leftover from Claire's first birthday. My sister helped me make the glitter letters for two, we bought wooden letters from Michael's and covered them with modge podge and sprinkled them with silver glitter. I will warn anyone using the colour peach for a party it is extremely hard to find that colour in any balloons, streamers or decorations if I had more time I would have ordered somethings off Etsy. Most of the time I had to settle for a soft pink colour that could easily pass as a peach colour. But I loved the way everything turned out, it was just perfect.

I made Yellow Butter Cake recipe into vanilla cupcakes with a Vanilla Buttercream icing. Then I baked a Chocolate Cake with the same icing. I made a peach colour icing and tried to do a ombre effect on the cake with just two layers. I love how it turned out. Both the cupcakes and cake were delicious and I would make them again. For my daughters first birthday we ordered cupcakes and a cake with my sister in laws mother who makes cakes for a living and they were delicious but this year I wanted to make it on my own. I think from now on I will be baking the girls birthday cakes, it's so much fun and really easy. Once they get older they can be included in the baking process as well. I love to bake and hope to pass that onto my girls.

We also decided to order dinner as a pose to making food for everyone. We wanted to be able to enjoy ourselves at the party and not have to be stuck in the kitchen or outside by the BBQ. We ordered food for Claire's first birthday at De Luca's and it was delicious so we ordered there again this time. We ordered three half portions of pasta, cheese tortellini, pasta al forna, and meat lasagna. They were a huge hit with our friends and family. Each of our mom's brought salad and Kyle's grandma made her famous coleslaw recipe. All in all it was a wonderful party and so much fun! We can't believe our little girl is now 2, she is growing up so fast and we love her more and more each day.

My Beautiful Family I'm so lucky!

Sleep? What's That?

After having both my daughters I have learned a few tips about helping little ones sleep. I would like to share some of those tips with you.

1. Bedtime Routine

It's important to establish a bedtime routine as soon as you arrive home from the hospital with your little one. The predictability of your routine will help your little one know it's time for bed. Our bedtime routine is stories, bath time, pj's, milk and into bed.

2. Swaddle Swaddle Swaddle

Most little ones need to be swaddled for sleeping because of their jerky reflexes they will wake themselves up if their hands are by their face. I have some favourite swaddling tools, Aden and Anais Swaddle BlanketsSwaddle Me by Summer and Woombie Swaddle. We are currently using the Aden and Anais blankets for nap time and Woombie Swaddle for bedtime, both are great for swaddling!

3. Practice

Allowing your little one time to practice their milestones during the day will ensure they don't wake during the night trying to practice them. Whether it's rolling over, crawling, standing or walking these major milestones need plenty of practice time during the day.

4. Sleep/Wake Times

Knowing how long your little one can be awake for during the day will ensure they are well rested for sleep at night. Little ones between 0-3 months can usually stay awake for 1-1.5 hours between naps. If you notice signs of sleepiness it's time to get your little one sleeping. Having a tired and grumpy baby during the day can lead to a restless night sleep. Sleep/Wake Times

I hope these tips help your little one get some sleep. Please feel free to leave your own tips that have helped.
